It’s quiet. The old walls somehow make you breathe deeper and easier. Everything’s slower.
The man in the corner has long grey hair and a scruffy beard. He sits at a table decorated with symbols of sacred geometry, channelling the harmony of the Universe. Before him are four colourful bags, each containing a deck of cards. This is the Tarot.
You can take a moment and sit with him. Choose one of the bags, and watch as he takes out the deck and shuffles the cards, preparing them for you. Then you take them, shuffle them, and let your energy flow into them. If you have a question, you close your eyes and focus on the thought, channelling it into the cards. Or you can simply let them settle in your hands and wait for them to speak to you.
Take three cards.
One from the top, one from the bottom, one randomly from the middle of the deck.
The top card is the light.
Luce. What is known.
The bottom card is the shadows.
Ombra. The hidden.
The random card is chance.
Fortuna. The unpredictable.
The cards are silent until you speak to them. Your energy, your question, your presence, gives them meaning that is unique to you.
You may be troubled, or excited, or curious, or at a crossroads. Or, you might just want a bit of You time, a moment to step back and see things in a different light.
Sometimes, the noise around us and the distractions of our minds make it hard to know what is right for us. Decisions become high mountains, our hearts’ desires become guilty secrets.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
The Tarot cuts out the noise by taking whatever’s on your mind and putting it on the table before you. It is a path to clarity, drawn from an ancient wisdom that transcends the clatter of nonsense that surrounds us.
Nook is the perfect place to get out of the rush and racket. Tucked away in a little courtyard off Spittal Street in Marlow, it is full of wondrous things and stuff you really don’t need, but really have to have.
On Sunday, May 18th, between 11 am and 4pm, the man with the grey hair and the scruffy beard (me) will be upstairs at Nook, with my table, my sacred symbols and those four little bags. You can take that moment to discover what is in the light, what is in the shadows, and how to prepare for whatever Fortuna brings to you.
